Infused Water and their Benefits

8 months ago by Anna Fernandez

Also called detox water, infused water can generally be any combination of fruits, vegetables, and herbs steeped in cold water. The big difference between store-bought fruit juice and infused fruit water is that the former is flash-pasteurised, which means that a large proportion of the essential nutrients from the actual fruit are killed off during the heating process. Infused water on the other hand, retains the natural nutrients stored in actual fruits. Here are some of their benefits and tips for making the most out of infused water.

Slows digestion, speeds up metabolism and aids in weight loss

Infused water contains fewer calories and sugar than soft drinks. Moreover, the active compounds in fruit speed up metabolism, causing more calories to be burnt throughout the day. For example, lemon water is well-known for its metabolism boosting effects. It energizes your body and promotes fat loss.

Lemons and apples contain pectin, a type of soluble fibre that can help slow digestion and prevent blood sugar spikes that spur hunger. Apples are a great source of fibre to keep you feeling full, and its high water content helps fill your belly, as well.

Highly nutritious

Fruit infused water is more filling and nutritious than plain water. Fruits contain natural antioxidants and vitamins and so, squeezing the fruit to release its juice into the water before steeping will enhance its nutritional value.

Infuse apples for 4-24 hours (the longer, the better) because apples don’t infuse as readily as other fruits. Another tip is to slice them thinly because thin apple slices provide the most surface area for juices and flavor to seep out into the water.

Removes toxins from the body

Due to their high antioxidant content, fruit infused water is known to be able to cleanse your body and eliminate toxins. While keeping your body hydrated, waste will be removed from your system. As a result, you’ll have a stronger immune system and better health.

Furthermore, the natural compounds in fruits help maintain body pH within the ideal range, which decreases your chances of developing cancer.
